Future Earth Japan National Committee Launched

The Future Earth National Committee for Japan was launched in Tokyo on September 15 at its inaugural General Assembly organized by the Science Council of Japan (SCJ). Members of the Future Earth Japan Consortium that supports the Tokyo Future Earth Global Hub, attended the General Assembly, which resolved to launch a Future Earth Japan National Committee through constructive reorganization of the Consortium.

To tackle global challenges and enhance the endeavor of Future Earth for a sustainable future in Japan and abroad, the Committee, in collaboration with the SCJ, aims to:

  • promote transdisciplinary approaches through engaging with a wide range of societal stakeholders;
  • collaborate with societal partners in their efforts towards the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; and
  • enhance Japan's international contribution through assisting the Tokyo Global Hub and the Asia Regional Centre for Future Earth.

With members of a diverse range of societal partners beyond academia, including policy-makers and representatives from industry and civil society, the Future Earth Japan National Committee is expected to play a pivotal role in networking societal partners to further implement and materialize transdisciplinary approaches in Japan.

The Future Earth Japan National Committee will add a new impetus to realize the Future Earth vision of a sustainable and equitable world as the sixth nation-level network in the Asia and the Pacific region.
