Call for participants: TERRA School 2021

The TERRA School is a short-term intensive course on transdisciplinary research (TD) hosted by the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN) and Future Earth Japan. TERRA School provides an introduction to the principles, tools, methodologies and practice of transdisciplinary research  and aims to build up the skills and attitudes of early career researchers to take on TD activities. To date, 33 young researchers from more than 10 countries in Asia have taken the course.

We are now looking for participants to the next offering of a virtual TERRA School on February 16 to March 4, 2022.

In line with this, we would like to invite you to nominate a candidate from within your networks to participate in the TERRA School.  This will be a great learning opportunity for early career researchers and their participation will also allow them to be part of the network of Future Earth and RIHN.

Eligible candidates are the following:

a) Received PhD within the last 10 years or involved in sustainability related projects for a minimum of 5 years and maximum of 10 years

b) Living and working in Asia (including Japan)

c) Interested or engaged in the interface of sustainability research and practice

d) Able to participate using the English language

e) Able and available to participate in live online and asynchronous sessions (able to commit a total of 20-25 hours for the duration of the course)

In making nominations, please also consider the following:

a)    Nominate one (at most 2) eligible candidates from within your project network

b)    Candidates that are likely to seriously engage in transdisciplinary research

c)    Relevance of the training program to the candidates current work and engagements

The course is free but will have limited slots and not all the nominated candidates will be automatically accepted. Geographical, expertise and gender will be considered in the final selection of candidates.

Here is a briefer and a link to an application form which you can share with your potential nominees.  The application form should be completed at the latest by 6pm Japan time on 4 January, 2022.  We would like to encourage candidates to apply as soon as possible. We will notify successful candidates before mid-January 2022.
